Rattle

This was one of my first attempts at micro-fiction (stories shorter than 150 words).

It was originally published on  just100words.com in August 2015.

At first Jane worried because the rattling seemed to be coming from the car. However it persisted when she switched off the engine.

Long into the night she heard the rattling, until she knew it was an echo in her head.

She turned the music up to block it out. She went to parties and danced so it might be drowned in movement. She laughed louder than everyone else.

But the rattling remained, the sound of her head falling apart.

She went to the doctor and got some pills.

As she tipped them onto her palm the pill bottle rattled.
